Activities if a vehicle registered in Latvia is exported from the country

If the vehicle is intended to be exported from Latvia for re-registration or alienation in another country, it must be removed from the register for export from Latvia. Removing the vehicle from the register for alienation in Latvia or export from Latvia, the liability of the registered holder for violations committed with the vehicle in road traffic shall be terminated.

If the vehicle is temporarily registered in Latvia, the documents and registration plates submitted for registration are stored in the relevant CSDD customer service centre, where they are received by the owner, removing the vehicle from the register for export from Latvia. It is permitted to remove a vehicle from the register for export not earlier than 5 working days after its first registration or re-registration in Latvia. Vehicles registered in Latvia are due to be taxed until the vehicle is removed from the register or information about the re-registration of the vehicle abroad is received from the register of foreign vehicles.

In order to participate in road traffic with a vehicle that has been removed from the register for export from Latvia, transit number plates must be received (see the section "Receipt of transit number plates").
