In 2024 number of road fatalities per million inhabitants: Norway 16, Sweden 20, Lithuania 42, Estonia 50, Bulgaria 74, Romania 77, EU average 45.
The data for the last two months are incomplete, as the data from the database of the Ministry of the Interior is obtained once a month until the 10th, and also because persons who died within 30 days of the accident are considered accident fatalities
Serious traffic crashes are investigated by the police and expert examinations are carried out, taking into account newly acquired information during the investigation of the crashes. Data for the previous year are usually updated by May of the current year
At the start of 2025 fatalities numbers for the period 2021-2023 were updated. The data tables published on this page are intended for informational purposes in order to assess the dynamics of traffic accidents, the data are not official.
